Spirit Day is this Friday, and Seventeen Magazine wants you to go purple! Seventeen's Editor-in-Chief, Ann Shoket, writes on her blog about advocate and Spirit Day Ambassador Britney McMillan, who started Spirit Day in 2010 to show support for LGBT youth and take a stand against bullying. Brittany was also a finalist in Seventeen’s ‘Pretty Amazing’ cover contest this month.

Ann writes, "Last year, 3 million people joined Spirit Day by wearing purple (in real life and on Twitter). This year, on October 19th, we have the opportunity to rally together once again to make an even bigger impact." On Spirit Day, Seventeen will be creating a purple Pinterest board, tweeting #SpiritDay photos of Seventeen staff, and turning all of its social media photos purple. The magazine will also post a purple version of its current issue on the Seventeen Magazine Facebook page!

You can join Seventeen Magazine and millions of Americans on Spirit Day by going to www.glaad.org/spiritday

You can show your support for LGBT youth and stand against bulling on October 19 for Spirit Day by using GLAAD's #Spirit Day tool and turning your profile photos purple on social media, turning your iPhone or Android photos purple, and tweeting @seventeenmag and @glaad using the hashtag #SpiritDay.
